General Liability Insurance – The Coverage
The general liability insurance is an insurance that covers for losses in your assets should your business be charged with a lawsuit for causing bodily injuries or property damages to a third party. With the coverage provided by the general liability insurance, your business is likely to be more secure from the prospect of losing payouts to lawsuits.
The coverage of the general liability insurance that a business has to invest in varies according to two factors. The first factor is the state jurisdictions. If your local court has the preference of awarding high amounts of penalty to the plaintiffs, then it is wise to buy a policy which covers for a larger amount. In addition, the risks of your business are also another determinant. If you operate a business which is deemed to have a higher risk, then it would be safer for you if you buy a policy which covers for a greater amount of compensation.
There are various aspects in which the insured is covered for by the general liability insurance. The first one would be bodily injuries. If a victim is physically hurt while being in the operating site of the business, or after consuming a certain product of the business, and chooses to sue the business for bodily injuries, then the insured would not have to worry about the large sum of medical fees, as it is all covered by the insurance policy.
Secondly, slanders and libels are another type of potential harms which may expose the company to the risk of bankruptcy. These claims, if the court deems your responsibility, can be of sky-high amount. This is because the amount of compensation is normally judged based on the mental and spiritual losses incurred to the victim, and these losses have no standard quantitative measures to go according to. However, if you are insured by general liability insurance, then you are protected from this risk.
Other than that, the breaching of advertising rights, such as unintentional imitation of advertising ideas are also protected by general liability insurance. Finally, thefts of office equipments or fittings are also compensated by this type of insurance.
