Cell phone bans are the logical follow-up to all the texting bans that are sweeping the nation. Many states have a ban of some sort on cell phones. Usually this ban is restricted to novice drivers and school bus drivers. Rhode Island currently bans cell phone use for those individuals under the age of 18 and school bus drivers. There is currently an attempt to add a handheld cell phone ban for those under the age of 21. The crime would be punishable by $100 fine.

This was interesting to researchers because grandparents were more likely to get into accidents and less likely to use child-safety restraints. Researchers theorize that grandparents drove more cautiously with children than parents do.
