I have said before that I dont think electric cars are the way of the future and I have little interest in them. Well, most of them that is. When the fun factor is turned up to max, a battery-powered car can catch my attention.

The Venturi America caught my attention!

Not only is this on/off road buggy dead sexy to look at, but it also has the performance to back it up. The mid-mounted 220 kw motor produces the equivalent of over 300 horsepower. All that juice is sent to the rear wheels through a limited slip differential, ensuring that energy reaches the ground equally.

Oregon Residents Saving on Insurance With Help from New Law

According to the Division of Insurance, Oregonians saved more than $800,000 in premiums last year with the help of a new law that allows them to request to be re-rated by insurers if they feel their credit score has improved.

Insurance companies around the country routinely take credit information into account when determining how much risk a prospective policyholder poses, which in turn helps determine how much to charge that policyholder for coverage.

Although some coverage providers will check a driver’s credit information first at the initial issuance of a policy and then again at every renewal, Oregon insurers have since 2003 been restricted to using credit information only for new policies. P

Over half of motorists would consider “fronting”

New research from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) suggest that thousands of UK motorists are putting their cover at risk and driving illegally by knowingly giving their insurer false information, or failing to disclose important facts such as motoring convictions.

The number one temptation is for a parent to insure a vehicle in their name as the main driver, with their son or daughter down as an occasional driver, when in fact they are the main user.

The practice is commonly known as “fronting” and over a half of motorists surveyed said they would not rule it out, despite the fact that it could invalidate their insurance and lead to a criminal conviction.

Seven insurers sign up to OFT data exchange limits

Seven insurance companies and two IT software and service providers have provisionally agreed to limit the data they exchange, following competition law concerns raised by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

Ageas, Aviva, AXA Insurance UK, Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society, RBS Insurance, RSA and Zurich, plus IT firms Experian and SSP, have all offered formal commitments to the watchdog.

The move follows an OFT investigation which identified an increased risk of price coordination among motor insurers using a market analysis tool from Experian, called Whatif?

Auto Insurance Costs Dropped Slightly in December

December showed the first month-to-month drop in the average cost of vehicle insurance for 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the BLS showed that the price of coverage dropped 0.3 percent in December.

Using the National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s estimated average expenditure for coverage and subsequent CPI reports, the average cost of coverage in the United States is now approximately $887.

According to CPI reports, the price of car coverage rose a total of 3.8 percent in 2010.
