Why did my friend have to pay to take her test at the DMV in DC; isn’t it supposed to be free?
Unfortunately, your friend was a day late and is now $10 short. The DMV started charging a $10 fee for both the written and road test on July 1, 2011. You are correct, up to this point the DMV did not charge license applicants to take the written or road test. Duplicate ID cards also went up to $20 from $7.
