What can I do if my auto insurance is too expensive?
If you are looking to reduce your current insurance, there are several policy areas you can consider changing:
Deductibles: You could increase your deductible. This will reduce your insurance expenses. For example raising your deductible from $200 to $1000 could reduce your collision premium by up to 40%!
Discounts: Auto insurance discounts include anti-theft, anti-lock brakes, air bags and several others. Make sure you have all of the discounts you are entitled to by talking to your agent about them.
Remove Coverages: If you have an old car, consider removing the collision and comprehensive coverage. Check and see what the car is worth and determine if it make sense to pay that premium. If the car is old enough and something happens to it, you may just end up junking the car.
If your policy is coming up for renewal, it may be a good time to shop around by obtaining quotes from three to seven insurers. Use the same data for each one so you receive a good set of comparable numbers. Keep in mind deductibles, discounts and the coverages you really need when reviewing the quotes.
