I’m going to buy a car soon, what tricks should I look out for?

Car salesmen are possibly the most maligned profession, after lawyers that is. Not all car salesman are out to fleece you, but you do need to be careful, because there are some less than honest members of the profession. If you are buying a car, watch out for some of the following tactics:

• How much per month? – This is often asked by the shopper, but sometimes by the seller. Beware; cost per month may be much more expensive in the end than the sticker price indicates.
• Big rebates! – find out the specifics about the rebate. You may not qualify for all the terms
• Limited time only! – It always seems that the great discount is going to end tomorrow, so you had better buy today. Don’t fall for it. They want you to buy the car. Take as much time as you need to think about it.
• Would you like to add…? – This is a common tactic. At the end, they’ll ask you if you want to add anything, hoping that you’ll be so tired of the process that you’ll agree just to get out of there.
